ARHOA DRC General Design
Guidelines
- Fences:
-
- Cannot exceed 6 ft in height and retaining walls cannot
be higher than 3 ft.
- Must be one of the styles in the Design Guidelines
(Highlands Ranch Style only allowed on perimeter fence).
- Must be made of wood, no chain link allowed.
- Must be maintained either stained or yearly power
washed.
- Driveways, Porches, Walkways:

- Cannot widen driveway more than 2 ft on either side to
allow for walking, not parking additional cars.
- Must be maintained. Cracks repaired. If sinking, must be
replaced or mud jacked.
- Landscape:
-
- Each house must have at least 1 tree in the front yard
and 1 tree in the back yard.
- Trees shall be a minimum of 2 1/2 inch caliper and
planted 20 ft on center.
- Trees must be 8-10 ft from property line with a minimum
of 5 ft to allow for growth.
- Trees cannot be any closer than 4 ft from concrete
driveway.
- No irrigated plant material is to be located within 5 ft
of home foundation.
- Retaining walls cannot interfere with drainage around
your home or your neighbors' homes.
- Sheds:

- No aluminum sheds.
- Must be permanently attached to a foundation.
- Must have siding and roof shingles that match that house
on the property.
- Must be painted to match the house.
- Must be 5 ft from property lines, but homeowner must make
sure not to put a shed in a city easement (these are shown on homeowners plot
plan). Some easements can be 8-10 ft within property lines, and if you have
electrical boxes, sheds must be at least 10 ft from any electrical boxes. If
homeowners fail to follow these city codes they may have to move their shed
and/or can be taken to court if they refuse to move them.
- Trees and Shrubs:

- Please check list of approved trees and shrubs in the
Design Guidelines before choosing them for your landscape.
- Paint Palette:

- There are 75 different color combinations to choose from,
please take the time to see the paint palette that the DRC Area Representatives
can let you look at. (see
DRC Area Rep map).

- Maintenance of Landscapes:

- Turf must be edged once per month during growing
season.
- Every yard must have an irrigation system that must be
utilized and maintained.
- Lawns must be fertilized at least 4 times per year.
- Weeds must be controlled or eliminated.
- Grass must be kept mowed with its height not exceeding
